When I was younger, a lot of people told me to watch the It Gets Better campaign videos as a source of support. But those videos almost made things harder for me.
Even if you do not identify as part of the LGBT community, you still have an important role to play. You can learn to be an ally. The more I work with queer youth, the more I hear “If I had had just one person to talk to, maybe it wouldn’t have been so hard.” You and I can learn to be that one person. You and I can help.

I love the phrase “come out the closet”. I’ve heard of people doing it in pretty extravagant fashion, like showing up to prom with their girlfriend, or just in subtle conversation like fashion. I have my own way of doing it.
