It’s that time again! We’re looking for people who have a unique and compassionate voice to be a part of the Fall 2015 You Matter Blogger Council.

If you’re between 13-24 and are passionate about suicide prevention and mental health, we want you to apply. You’ll write one post each week from September 15th to December 15th.  Plus, you’ll have the chance to interact with our community and will participate in monthly video chat with your fellow You Matter Blogger Council members. Did we mention that this is an excellent resume booster for future college and job applications?!

To apply, please complete this application by September 2nd.

FYI: The application will ask you some basics like your name, hometown, age, along with why you’d make a great You Matter Blogger. You’ll also need to include a sample post of 300-500 words that shows off your voice and writing style— so be sure to have that ready before you start the application.

Have questions? Email them to [email protected] and we’ll get back to you. Applications are due by September 2nd, so hurry up and apply!

Hi, I’m Sierra Jackson. I am a Junior at Apache Junction High School and I will be turning 17 September 3rd. I believe I will be a good Candidate for this because of the struggles and complications I’ve experienced in life. There is a lot to be said so I will start at the beginning. Freshman year(2013-2014) it was November, 6, 2013 during lunch when I got the news that my friend Edward from my 8th grade science class had killed himself. I was affected by it a little but not like others where. Later that month two other kids, which so happened to be older than me at the time killed themselves. I was able to keep my emotions down and control it and help other students, along with friends. Then Friday, December, 13, 2013 I was having the best day ever until I learned my bestfriend Izaiah Buck had committed suicide . I couldn’t believe it and I went into complete shock, I mean my friend since 6th grade, my soccer mate was gone forever. I lost hope and faith, I didn’t believe in happiness anymore. I went into depression and started self harm and having suicidal thoughts. But with friends I was able to overcome it and I got better. In July 2014 I moved to Mesa, Arizona and I lost all my friends when I moved states and I slipped back into depression. Over time I made some friends and they helped me over come it once again. On June, 6, 2015, I got the news that Carlie a beautiful talented girl I played soccer with had taken her life. Right after that happened I moved again which cause me to go back into being depressed. I have my friend Austin that helps me and I’ve been getting better since then. I just started a another new school and on the 3rd day of school this kid I had a class with killed himself. He was also in ROTC with me and it effected my ROTC unit majorly. I was able to help them deal with the pain and I learned how to get people through it because of the pain I went through. Now today I look and seek out help other people with the same things I went through. It helps me keep my minds off my problems I went through and it makes me feel good knowing I have helped someone. I feel by me being able to be apart of this, I will be able to help and inspire many other people. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
